On my eighth day in Jamaica we got up quite early because we had to gather at the Projects Abroad office early in the morning. Here we stepped into the busses that would drive us to Ocho Rios. The trip took us about three hours, due to the fact that the busses were a little overloaded with people and could therefore not drive that fast up and down the mountains. The drive was pretty long and it was really warm in the bus. There was also a huge bug that flew into the bus and caused a lot of panic (especially among the girls). But I really enjoyed this trip because I had great company and the views were absolutely mesmerizing. During the drive I was talking to Zayn & Kayla. They were both from Ohio and had come here as a couple. We talked about everything and anything, from the weather in our home countries, to our different education systems and our favourite things to do in our free time. When we finally arrived at Turtle Tower Beach, I was just so amazed by the clearness and blueness of the sea, and the beach itself was so white! Nothing like I have ever seen before! We spent some time in the water and I tanned a little on the beach. Unfortunately for me, I step into a dead bee and the needle got stuck in my foot. I managed to pull the needle out, but foot stayed itchy for a while. After we spent some time at the beach, we went to Island Grill to get some lunch. I tried the Fricassee Chicken (brown stewed chicken) and got myself a fruit juice. After lunch we headed to the Craft Market. It's a really cool place where they sell almost every souvenir you could possibly think of! However, the sellers want nothing more than you to come into their stores and they sure now how to pressure you to buy something from them, which I personally got a little annoyed with at times. I didn't buy much at the Craft Market though, because the prices are quite high. I only bought myself a real Jamaican bandana for my dreadlocks. We then got back into the busses to head back to the Projects Abroad office. It darkened quite soon and it even started raining, no wait... it started pouring! Even though it made it hard for the driver to see where he drove and we could literally see the water pour down the roads like a river, the Jamaican supervisors were really happy with the rain since it hadn't rain for about two months. On top of the rain, we also got some thunderstorms and lightning! I have to admit that I was a little scared because we were closer to the lightning since we drove in the mountains and the sound of the thunderstorms got reflected by the mountains, which made it feel as if the thunderstorm was everywhere around us. Luckily we all got home safely! When I got back home, I changed my wet clothes, had some Flitters for dinner and sat down in the living room when suddenly the lights fell out and the television stopped working. There was a power outage. Since there was not much to do in the dark, I decided to go to bed and get myself some rest for the next day.
